- Expertise
When you start a blog about a topic, the audience would like to view you as an expert in it. May it be the readers, employers, and your network. It would help if you were viewed as skilled and knowledgeable for that particular topic.

If your blog tops in the ranking and you have many readers for your blog, there may be opportunities to monetize. You can blog for additional income sources other than your everyday work, which can be beneficial for you in today’s world.
Now, if you know what your blogging goals are, then this is the time to start or switch to the right thing sooner. The next thing you need to do is start writing to be confident about what you have learned.

Choose your right blogging platform.
Here are four leading blogging platforms that might be right for you.
If you are blogging for your own and If you want to learn how to start a blog for traveling or photography or any of your interests and you are not aiming to attract more audience out of it, then these are the right blogging platforms for you:
- WordPress.com
- Tumbler
Also, WordPress.com and Tumbler are free of cost and openly available for everyone. If you are interested in personal blogging, this may be the right one for you.
If you are aiming to attract a vast audience and to be a professional blogger to earn or set up your business, these are the right choices for you
- WordPress.org
- Squarespace
Here, you pay as you use, you have multiple options for your flexibility to make your website look professional and add more features.
WordPress.com and Tumblr
Pros | Cons |
Free to use and available for everyone. | Less choice for customization. |
Easy to set up and use. | You cannot produce good designs so poor look and feel. |
Register, pick up a theme and add some values to it. | Upgradation required to add more features and the cost becomes even more than a self hosted website. |
Connect to the large community and people with same interests. | You cannot make a professional website using it. |
Helps you reach good audience in less time, as a lot of people who do blogging as a hobby do it here for free. | It is difficult to advertise on your website so earning gets pretty difficult, no or less scope of monetization . |
WordPress.org and Squarespace
Pros | Cons |
It is a best choice for professional use. | It is not very well suited for the beginners. |
You may use it for your business or setting up a new business. | Longer process- You have to first register a domain name, then get a web hosting account and make installations on it. |
It provides a disney world of opportunities and designs and has endless customisation options. | If you do not know much about web hosting and domain services you need to hire a professional to do the setup for you. |
Squarespace has all in it- you can purchase hosting and squarespace services all at once. | It is not recommended for simpler blogs and unprofessional bloggers. |
It costs less for a self hosted website compared to the paid version of WordPress.com and Tumbler. | There are less tutorials, resources and help guides available for Squarespace compared to others. |
If you are aiming for monetization (making money from your site) this is the right choice for you. | As WordPress.org is the number one choice for most of the professional bloggers there are also some risk factors connected to it. |
Select a Perfect Niche For Your Blog
When you start blogging, the very first question is how do you choose the perfect niche for your blog? But what is a blog niche? It is the same as deciding what topic you should choose for your blog.
A blog niche is a topic that you carefully select, and this is the topic on which you will be focusing on your blog content.
Firstly, all you have to do is find the perfect niche that fascinates you to write a blog, and then you are all set to move forward towards a successful blogging career and stand out from the competition.
Now, to choose one among the billion topics that you have around the world, all you have to keep in mind is:
- Choose something that you are passionate about.
- Explore your competitors
- And then analyze monetization potential.
- Also, make sure a niche has enough audience interest.
- How often do people search about those topics?
Having your domain name
- If you are not currently ready to start your website, you can still get a domain name if you have a good idea for it. Domain names are unique, and only one person can have a domain name. If your desired domain name is not available, then you have to buy it from someone who has it or choose an alternative for that domain name.
- So if you currently have your desired domain name available, grab it before someone else does that, so you do not have to buy it from someone else and pay more for it.
- If you have a business, then having a domain name will bring your business online and give a more professional look. Having a web appearance can make you stand out from the crowd, so people come to know more about you and your business/ blogs.
- You can get your business name as a domain name, so it’ll be more likely people searching for you will find you or your brand on the internet.
- Domain names are unique, which makes it easy for the customers to remember and tell others about your business or blogs.
Registering your Domain Name
What do you understand by a Domain Name?
Your domain name is the name that will be displayed and by which you will be known online.
For amazon, “www.amazon.com” is the domain name.
If you look at the entire URL “https://www.amazon.com/music/prime”
- ‘https’ is the protocol type.
- ‘www.amazon.com‘ is the domain name.
- ‘www’ is the host
- ‘amazon’ is the 2nd level part of the domain name.
- And the top-level part of the domain name is ‘.com.’
- So the part that comes after the domain name is the web page; here it is ‘/music/prime‘
The web page is not a part of the domain name, that is the web page name, and it is different for all the pages you have. Try Namecheap
How much do the domain names cost?
You get the yearly plans for the domain names, which range around $10-$15 per year. If you buy a single domain name and if it is available for use, it will cost you less than the domain name, which is already taken, and you have to buy it from the third person.
Mainly all the domain names with simple words or multiple common words are already taken, so you have to come up with good meaningful, unique domain names which make sense with the blog or business you are setting up.
Companies that sell domain names in bundles and ask you to buy domain names offering discounts or even for free the whole first year but may charge you more than twice the following year. You also do not have to worry about the prices as you have to pay the same amount every year.
Now go to NameCheap and type in the domain. You can go to Namecheap.com. This site is clean and straightforward. Namecheap is easier to use, and its prices are comparatively better for most of the domain names. They also provide you with ‘WhoIsGuard,’ which protects your identity.
- Check if your desired domain name is available or not
- If it is not available, it gives you some other matching options.
- If the domain name is available, add it to the cart
- Now go and click on view cart; you will see the amount you have to pay
- WhoIsGuard will also be provided for free (that protects your identity online)
Get a web hosting account.
The next and most important step is to select a reliable hosting service. Your site’s functionality and performance to a great extent depend on your blog hosting so if you choose the wrong web host, it can cause major problems, so you must choose a reliable provider.
‘Bluehost’ has a brilliant set of WordPress-specific features, and it has many support options with good knowledgeable staff.

Security Is Important
As we know that WordPress, out of all the options out there, is the most popular platform for blogging. As popular it is, it also has risk factors sometimes as it is highly desirable for the hackers out there. So it would be best if you always kept that in mind. You get security measures depending on your hosting services. If your hosting provider does not provide you the security, you can look at other security plugins’ options.
Planning & Designing your Blog.
Here are the key points you need to keep in mind while designing your website:
- Primary Goal : Navigable.
When someone visits your website, they should not have to scroll through the blog to find what they have been searching for. You must divide your blog into parts such that it becomes easy to find the portion they are looking for. Your blog should be easily navigable, and the paragraph they need to find should be available for them to find easily.
In short, the path should be clear, and everything should be divided into parts that are easily navigable through a defined path.
- Don’t put too much stuff.
Quality over quantity. Put only things and points which are important, and your instructions should be clear and understandable. So people don’t get tangled by seeing so much InformationInformation which isn’t even necessary for them.
To prevent putting extra and unnecessary InformationInformation for them and be clear about the points you have listed in the header, they visit your website.
- Avoid adding heaps of ads to a variety of color pallets.
Yes, you get paid for promoting the ads but it should be in a mannered systematic way that doesn’t create a fuss for the readers. If they see too many ads, they might get irritated and close the tab and stop reading more articles from you.
Too many ads sometimes interrupt the reading, which is the primary purpose of your blog. Also, ad pop-ups should be taken care of. A clean and straightforward page looks more professional and plays a significant role in attracting audiences.
- Use images to your advantage.
Images ads value to your texts and also makes your blog look exciting and attractive. Breaking up the text and using images keeps the reader interested. Also, sometimes images play a significant role in making the topic more understandable and make sense to the paragraphs’ things.
People also search for images on the feed, which will give them access to your blog, so using images may result in a more prominent advantage; even if your topic is not very much popular, you can be seen with the help of images.
- Pictures help make longer posts easier to understand.
Most people like reading short InformationInformation provided in the images instead of reading paragraphs to understand a topic. Because images can explain things with designs, shapes and practical implementation with less number of words. So bloggers with minimalist layouts get the advantage of using images in the right way.
- Choose the style that suits your needs!
When you write a blog about a specific thing that matters the most, it should reach the audience the same way you meant it. When you pay more attention to the website’s look and feel, it will add a cherry to your cake of words.
Your blog’s design should be appropriate with the topic you have chosen or the business you are setting up your website.
The website’s style must resonate with your blog, which will help people connect more with it.
- Get inspired
Find inspiration in every blog you read, point to the blog’s uniqueness and the writer, and appreciate it. You should always look at other bloggers with content similar to you. It is important to be in the know and be connected, they are a great source of inspiration and ideas.
Creating Important pages for your Blog.
After all of the setup, the next step is to focus on creating the pages. So what pages should you consider setting up your site?
- New? Start here
There should be a page for new visitors, Information of what they will find, what you write about, how often you post, call to action, etc. And it may include the most visited blogs that you have written or the most recent blogs on your website.
This is a great way to build your community for the visitors who fall in love with your content in the first read!
- About
Every website should have an about page which tells you about the website, the writer, the aim and motive behind this website and writing blogs. This page is important because this is where your audience will get to connect with you and know about you. People really love knowing more about the people behind something they really like. If people like your blog or your whole website, all your pages, they would want to find the About page and know more about you.
- Contact
Initially, when you start a blog, there will be fewer or no people trying to reach you, but as soon as you start getting more views, your blog grows, and a simple contact page can be beneficial in bringing opportunities to you. You never know what opportunities are waiting out there for you!.
So having a contact page is essential and necessary so people can reach you whenever they need to.
- Archives
Sometimes it is a struggle to access the entirety of some website’s archives. What if someone loves one of your posts and wants to access more of it or see more posts you have written on a similar topic. Make it easier for people to have access to your old posts so they can read them and connect more to your website.
You can do this by adding a link in your current post, adding tags on your website, or dividing your posts into categories easily accessible by everyone who goes through your website.
Boost Blog Engagement with Social Media.
Social media plays a vital role in promoting your blog or making it noticeable by the community interested. It’s a way to promote your work, find another inspiration and connect with bloggers, industry-related people, or the ones of your community.
It can also get pretty overwhelming very quickly.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, LinkedIn, Snapchat, Youtube, Pinterest, and many more. Also, who knows what will pop up shortly!
There is so much to keep up with, so it is better to focus on just 2 or 3 of these social media channels and do them well than do all of them poorly. The question is, what social media does your reader demographic use? Pick that.
To focus on which social media platform to focus on,
- Try to think about your ideal reader.
- What is their age?
- How do they find recent news and Information?
- What do they like to do?
- What do they struggle with?
- How do they find new blogs?
From there, think a little bit about each platform. For example,
Instagram is great for beautiful images, but there you cannot have clickable links.
Snapchat is fun and fantastic for young audiences, but there is no way to search for specific industries or categories in the app.
Twitter appeals to clients who are busy and compactly want news, but tweets live for about 30 minutes before getting lost in the Twitterverse.
As you can see, all social media platforms have pros and cons. Now it is your job to figure out and understand which one is best for your readers and which social media platform will help you reach more audiences.
With that Information, you can know about your ideal reader, have a focused view towards them, and keep that in mind; choose your ideal social media platform instead of focusing on all of them, which is impossible.
Don’t be afraid to change and morph your social media platform in future, if needed. Just know that whatever you decide on, make your bio and picture on all the platforms consistent, which means that you need to keep the same bio and same picture for all of them. This eliminates confusion for the reader who is trying to find you.

This matters and could pay huge dividends in the future because, let’s say I wrote an article and it gets picked up by someone. They may not alert me to let me know that they are republishing my blog but may just republish it. And
I may not get to know about it, but I can simply find out and be aware of it if I get that email.

Tips for creating great content!
- Readout your posts twice before you publish them.
You may sound like a crazy person falling into a hole of insanity as you talk to yourself in front of your computer. When people feel that they can relate to something, they sit down and read it. Make your post more interactive and less tedious.
This will help you, even if your posts are short or primarily image-based.
When you are reading your post, focus on the language and stiffness. Ask yourself if this is too much or too less?
- Perfect is boring!
Don’t try to be perfect, people want to know about the mess ups, the mistakes, the imperfections. In fact it’s your flaws that makes you more relatable.
Instead of trying to be perfect, be the real you when you write, because that is where people are going to connect with.
- Get inspired but do not copy them.
Perfection lies in the uniqueness of your blog. Get inspired by people but always sit and think about making your content unique and attractive by your thoughts. It may take time and effort, but you will get the results for your hard work in the end. So never stop thinking about ideas and thoughts you can put into it.
- Write every day and practice.
Write every day, even if you don’t publish all of them. Set aside some time, even if it is a few minutes, sit down and write, practice expressing yourself through written words.
Understand that it won’t always be easy, but regular writing practice helps!
“Making systems is different from setting goals. Creating a routine and a daily ritual would get you far ahead.”
